Hello there,
How are you feeling just a week before Christmas?
Time to check in with your inner self - here is a very quick practice for you: close your eyes & have your hands resting on your lap. Try to listen to what is happening inside of you just now. Do you notice anything in particular? Perhaps not much comes to you and that is ok. Perhaps you feel some tensions in some area of your body and you know these will need to be addressed one way or another. Take your time, bring some awareness to your breathing. Not changing anything, just noticing without judging.
And... that is it. Quick and simple. Just a way to pause and check in with yourself. Pause & reset.

🎄"It's the most wonderful time of the year"🎄
(dixit Andy Williams, I'm sure you have it!)… but it can also trigger some seasonal overwhelm!
I'll now share with you the 4 Christmas Overwhelm Coping Tips I have been creating to help you if needed with this sometimes very busy holiday.
Christmas Overwhelm Coping Tip #1:
Take a pause & observe
✦
It is a busy time of the year. Family gatherings, lots of people in your home, invited to others, higher expectations than usual.. If you feel this sense of overwhelm and turmoil inside of you, step out of the room to break from the noise and breathe.
The restroom is called the "rest"room for a reason?
Let's add the letter "e" and make it the "resetroom" for 5 minutes.
✦
- Place one hand on your chest, the other hand on your abdomen.
- Observe your breathing without judging. Without changing it.
- Simply observe the way you breathe in, the way you breathe out.
- Bring this reset intention into your inner world.
✦
Do this for a few minutes and when you feel ready, rejoin your family or friends!

Christmas Overwhelm Coping Tip #2:
Take a walk outdoors
✦
It may sound very simple but if you let the power of nature works its magic, you'll be amazed by the results🌳
✦
Whether for 5/10/30 minutes or even longer if you can, just be outside to break the mood and reset🚶♀️
✦
A study by the University of Essex found that just 5 min of nature exposure can begin to significantly reduce stress levels and the NHS advises that just 10 min of brisk walking daily makes a difference👣

Christmas Overwhelm Coping Tip #4:
Be in your child's shoes for a moment
✦
And if you're not a parent, connect with your inner child - we all have one, because us adults have all been children once!
✦
Children are extremely lucky to have this inner gift of the present moment. When they observe, when they play, when they interact, they are in the here and now. Not in their minds thinking of the next event or gathering - simply here in the present moment.
✦
Let's try that, even for just a minute to let our nervous system know that all will be ok

I wish you and your dear ones a peaceful and joyful Christmas - remember, take one hour at a time and enjoy💛
Warmly,

Christmas Overwhelm Coping Tip #3:
Muscles tensions and instant release
✦
Did you just have the most irritating conversation with a family member who doesn't share your views of the world…?
I've got you!
✦
Here is a quick practice you could try:
Lift both your arms parallel to the floor, hands in gentle fists
Breathe in, hold your breath for a few seconds (please remain comfortable!)
While holding your breath: gather up all tension and negativity in your body by tensing all your muscles
Breathe out (in a loud exhale if you wish!) release the tensions, release your fists as if dropping all the negative and lower your arms
✦
You can repeat this 3 times.
This should help regulate your nervous system and lower your stress levels from that conversation.
✦
To be tried with any other typical Christmas holiday occurrences!!
✦
Remember that you are in charge: decide whether you need to tense your entire body or just parts of your body.
